System Scan Information - Free Scan Summary

Why should I scan my PC?

When a new PC is setup, everything seems to run relatively flawless and efficiently.  As we load programs, things can slow the PC a little bit more.

However, over a long period of time we notice that some things take longer to perform, or something is not quite right anymore.  The computer can be slow and/or freeze more frequently.

We may also start to notice more popup ads, unknown toolbars, unusual internet activity, home page changing or various other issues that didn't seem to be present before.

A free scan of your PC can reveal problems within your system that may have appeared over time.  Such a scan, or scans, should include a free malware scan with free virus scan, spyware scan and adware scan.  Also consider a free spam scan and registry error scan.

Are these problems harmful, or just annoying?

This depends on the nature of the problem, and it's too difficult to generalise.  For example: a slow PC may just be annoying, but it's probably important to know what is causing the PC be slow.  The cause may be more sinister than the symptoms and a scan may help in detecting the real problem.

Refer to the following pages for more information on specific areas:

Such scans can reveal problems before they get worse.

What can I do?

Detection - Free Scan: If you feel you may already have problems and would like to try a free scan, there are many options available depending on your situation.  More information on making this decision can be found on our Products page.

To summarize, you may try a free scan with ParetoLogic - Anti-Spyware if you just want to perform some extra scans in addition to your current security software.  However you may prefer to try PC Tools Internet Security 2009 for broader security requirements.

Try PCTools - Registry Mechanic 8 or ParetoLogic - RegCure PC Optimizer if you feel your problem(s) are more related to the system registry.

Prevention:  PC Tools Internet Security 2009 is available for free download. We believe this is one of the best broad based system security products available. It's comprehensive security features include SpyWare, AdWare, Viruses, MalWare, SPAM, Firewall and more.  Most of it's main functions are available for free.

Ongoing vigilance through software is great, but prudent use of your PC will also greatly assist in minimizing the security risks.

Ongoing maintenance of the system registry also requires prudent usage of your computer and the programs you use.  Regular scanning of the registry can also identify problems before they become larger, or worse too big to repair.
